How long does it take to install a security alarm system?

Depending on the size of your property and your security needs, it can take anywhere from a few hours to several weeks to complete your alarm installation. As a general rule of thumb, our certified installers can have your alarm system installed within a day.

How do I activate an existing alarm system?

You will need a certified alarm installer to take a look at your existing system and get it activated for you. The team at Best Security Okanagan will also take a look to make sure that your system meets Bylaw regulations for security alarm systems and may make some recommendations for upgrades if they are needed.

Do I need to have a phone line to get a security system?

We understand that many homeowners are opting to get rid of their standard home phone lines. The good news is that we can also use your internet connection for your security system.

If you have a cabin or summer home and don’t have a phone line or internet, we can also work with you to set up a security system that is monitored via radio or cellular technology. So long as you receive a cellular signal at the property, we can set up a security system for you!

Why didn’t I get a call when I accidentally set my alarm off?

If you accidentally set your alarm off and then disarmed it immediately, you likely didn’t receive a call from our monitoring station. This is because we know that accidents happen and it’s really common for alarms to be set off accidentally and then disarmed right away.If your security alarm goes off and you disarm it within 30 seconds, our monitoring station won’t follow up with you. If the alarm is triggered for more than 30 seconds, our monitoring station will call you and ask you your standard security questions and password.

Will my pets set off my alarm system?

We know how important your furry family members are and you don’t have to choose between your security and your pets.Today’s alarm systems are intelligent enough to discern the difference between your dog and an intruder. Animals up to 100 lbs. will be able to move around your home without setting off the motion sensors but if you have a gigantic Great Dane, we can work with you to find a security solution that meets your needs!

Will my alarm system still work if the power goes out?

Like an old-school alarm clock, your alarm system includes a backup battery that goes into action when the power goes out. A good battery will last for several hours, powering your security system until power is restored to your home. Your security system will then recharge your battery for future power outages.If your battery doesn’t recharge or becomes to ‘dead’ to be used effectively, the monitoring station will give you a call to let you know that it needs to be replaced.

What happens to my security system if the phone or internet line goes down?

If your security system isn’t able to connect with the monitoring station, it will sound the audible alarm only. This may be loud enough for neighbours to hear and will also act as a deterrent for intruders. If you are concerned about the potential loss of phone or internet lines, the team at Best Security Okanagan will be happy to speak to you about our radio monitoring options.
